If you are choosing clay as the flooring option for your horse stable then keep one thing in mind i.e. it will require a lot of maintenance. This is not all though. When the clay floor is wet, the entire area could get slippery and the horses in the stable could be digging holes, depending on how much they like walking around.
If you want to choose sand, for instance, it is a safer option. The reason for that is that it is quite easy on the legs of the horse and there is not a lot of material that is required during the installation process. There is one drawback of wet sand floors though. The horses can get sand colic if they eat the sand being installed on the floor of the stable. Another thing is that the floor becomes uneasy with the paws of the horse.
Wood has been the one standard choice for flooring options when it comes to horse stables. The reason for that is wood is easier for the horses to walk on as compared to other flooring options on the list. If you use treated wood for the job, it is ideal to help prevent the rot caused by the water spills in the horse stable. It also keeps any bugs from chewing through it. One thing that you need to make sure of is that the wood planks should be thick enough so that no damage is caused. Another thing about wood flooring is to fill up the empty spaces.
This type of flooring is commonly used in stables. The main reason for concrete being a common choice is its durability and hardness. Yes, you read that correctly. There is one thing about the concrete stable floor though. It might look attractive once it has dried out completely but it can get quite slippery during the process. The best part about concrete flooring is that it is the healthiest option for the legs of the horses. Just ensure that rubber mats are installed on it after the concrete dries out.
